Technical notes:
In common with the rest of the page, particularly the edges owing to their proximity to the leather overlaps inside the front cover (D40898), the bottom right-hand corner is rubbed and darkened. Assuming a number ‘1’ was inscribed there by John Ruskin in red ink in sequence with his foliation of the rest of the sketchbook, it is no longer apparent.
