This sketch is inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation. The heavy shading in the foreground appears to represent reflections in water, presumably a river. There is possibly an indication of the horizontal roofline of a building in the distance above this point. The disk low in the sky towards the left probably represents the sun. The scene may be in or around the Thames Valley (see the sketchbook’s Introduction).
