Technical notes:
The outer half of the sheet is missing, and may have been so when Turner acquired the sketchbook or at least by the time he came to use its verso (D09914) and folio 15 verso opposite (D09912), which have a single sketch running across them. Ruskin’s number and the stamped Turner Bequest number are at the torn corner of the sheet, but in bracketing the versos ‘15a’ and ‘16a’ together without explanation as a single drawing, Finberg omitted to list the present recto in the Inventory.1
