In this slight sketch, Guy’s Cliffe House, near Warwick, is seen from the north among trees across the River Avon. As part of unpublished Turner research informed by local knowledge, Dr Bernard Richards confirmed the subject, which Turner noted in this instance.1 See under folio 28 verso (D22374) for the house and other views.

Technical notes:
The recto and verso (D22378) of this leaf are affected by the extensive pale brown, mottled staining which extends throughout the subsequent gathering (folios 31–42; D22379–D22402) and also folio 43 (D22403, D22404), as discussed in the Technical notes to the sketchbook’s Introduction.
