This is a continuation of the lake and trees from the main view on folio 4 verso opposite (D21981), under which the subject is discussed. Eric Shanes has related the overall sketch to a ‘colour beginning’ (Tate D25489; Turner Bequest CCLXIII 366) for Turner’s watercolour of Blenheim,1 discussed under folio 12 verso (D21995).
