As Ian Warrell has noted, this sketch shows moorland above Buxton, which is seen in the distance in the half-page continuation to the right on folio 58 recto (D22257).1 The view is to the north-east, from the hillside in the vicinity of the Terret. Turner has noted the white limestone outcrop above the low buildings in the foreground. For other views of Buxton and the landscape to its east see under folio 52 verso (D22246).
