Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the bright, draped form is probably a curtained bed. The pale form of a standing figure, apparently a woman, stands in the shadows to the right.

Technical notes:
The unaccessioned, blank recto is numbered in red ink ‘39’ and stamped ‘CCXCI(c) – 39. There is very slight watercolour offsetting from the present page onto the unaccessioned recto of folio 40 opposite (its verso being D28942).
