Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
The church was ruined in 1644, during the Civil War, and not rebuilt. Turner drew its shell, changing his position as he completed the drawing to include as much as possible of the structure. David Hill notes the pentimento in the drawing of the gable of the transept at the upper right.
