A study based on the coloured drawing of Tynemouth Priory seen from the south shore of Prior’s Haven in the North of England sketchbook (Tate D00942; Turner Bequest XXXIV 35), this sheet must have been worked on in the same sitting with that of Dunstanburgh Castle (Tate D00890; Turner Bequest XXXIII S), which uses similar paper and media, and is suffused with the same romantic energy.

The sheet is creased and stained.
