This is the other half of a detailed drawing of the citadel and Church of Notre-Dame at Dinant which continues onto the folio opposite (Tate D28155; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 60a). The view is taken at street level, offering a striking contrast of architectural scale and style. Turner’s handling is deliberate and fine: a careful rendering of a picturesque and impressive scene.
