Turner has produced two views of Dinant on this page: the largest running parallel to the gutter of the sketchbook and the other, a small sketch placed at the top left corner. A ferryboat is visible in the foreground of the principal drawing and is annotated as such with an inscription to the right of the hull of the vessel. Turner has added a further inscription, ‘Road’, towards the far right. Dinant’s sights (the citadel, the church, and bridge) are all in view; the prospect is somewhat similar to a sketch of the city on folio 62 recto (Tate D28157; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 62). The smaller of the two sketches depicts Dinant from the south-east, from a point on the opposite side of the Meuse.
