Klotten lies on the River Moselle, near the city of Cochem. Here Turner depicts it from the river, the view incorporating the medieval Burg Coraidelstein and the Parish Church of Saint-Maximin. The inscription ‘Mos’ marks out the river and a further annotation reading ‘Cloth’ probably refers to ‘Klotten’.
