These very rough jottings of the profile of Mainz were taken on the Rhine and are similar to Tate D28470; Turner Bequest CCXC 60a. The Cathedral and St Stephan’s Church are encompassed in both prospects and the building with the mansard-shaped roof on the right is probably the Deutschhaus, a baroque palace constructed to be the seat of the Rhineland-Palatinate Landtag (general assembly).
