These rough jottings show the buildings which line the waterfront at Koblenz, recorded by Turner from the Moselle Bridge. The twin towers of the Basilica of St Castor feature repeatedly. Next to the sketch of a tower is a peasant woman dressed in traditional garments, Turner inscribing the word ‘Red’ close to her blouse or neck scarf.
