There are three hilly skylines here, the last with trees in the foreground, but the absence of specific landmarks makes identification difficult. They may be in the Thames Valley area (see the identified views on folios 41verso–42 recto (D17988–D17989) and inside the back cover opposite (D40968) where there is a faint continuation of the lower view, or anywhere between London and Portsmouth in Hampshire, the subject of many studies in the first half of this sketchbook.
