The inscription on the verso identifies this view, which was taken from the western shore of the lake, and includes the whole of Snowdon, with the conical peak of Yr Aran to the right. A similar view of Snowdon from Llyn Cwellyn is the subject of a rapid sketch in the North Wales sketchbook (Tate D01381; Turner Bequest XXXIX 26).

Inscribed by Turner in pencil ‘Snowden [sic] from Quathlynn’; smears of colour ?from folio 66 recto opposite (D01351; Turner Bequest XXXVIII 97); stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
