Inverted in relation to the sketchbook as foliated, the small cursory studies of riverside hills that fill this page are too generic for the identification of a definite location. However, Turner’s notes towards the bottom of folio 69 recto opposite (D24017; Turner Bequest CCLIV 69), which contains similar views, may also identify this as the landscape around the small ferry town of Duclair on the right bank of the Seine. For comparisons, see the watercolours of Duclair that Turner worked up with a view to engraved reproduction around this time, see Tate D24671 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 106), D24739 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 174), and D24774 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 209).
A list of pages in the sketchbook featuring views of Duclair is provided in the entry for folio 68 recto (D24015; Turner Bequest CCLIV 68).
