With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner cursorily recorded a coastal view from atop high cliffs on this page. Running vertically along the left-hand edge of the page is a sketch of the brow of a hill topped by a square building. The lighthouses at Cap de la Hève near Le Havre in Normandy recur several times in this part of the sketchbook, perhaps locating this rocky scene close to that high headland. A list of pages in the sketchbook featuring Le Havre and Cap de la Hève is provided in the entry for folio 48 recto (D23975; Turner Bequest CCLIV 48).
