Made with the page turned horizontally, this is one of six studies at Schaffhausen in this sketchbook; the others are D02203, D02206, D02208, D02229 and D02230 (Turner Bequest XLVII 26, 29, 31, 52, 53). Turner may have referred to this broad study when he made a drawing of Schaffhausen intended for engraving in the Liber Studiorum series (Tate D08180; Vaughan Bequest CXVIII Z).
