This precise and finely rendered study depicts the Belgian town of Dinant at a distance (see also D20109–D20110, D20113; Turner Bequest CCXVII 16–17, 19). The view incorporates the citadel surmounting the plateau in the background, the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame, and the arched bridge traversing the Meuse.

Technical notes:
The paper has mottled and browned significantly, a result of the drawing’s prolonged exhibition and exposure to sunlight during the nineteenth century.
