In these rough and swiftly rendered sketches Turner depicts Givet and the sixteenth-century fortress of Charlemont (see Tate D19664; Turner Bequest CCXVI 57a). The Pont de Meuse and Tour Victoire with its conical roof can be seen in two of the views.
