This rough and swiftly rendered sketch depicts fortifications atop the Bock plateau at Luxembourg (see also Tate D19712–D19715; Turner Bequest CCXVI 82–83a). This sheet, and its verso: Tate D18472; Turner Bequest CCX 90a, was removed from the present sketchbook and bound into the Brighton and Arundel sketchbook (Turner Bequest CCX) at some point in the nineteenth or early twentieth century.
