Here Turner records eight views of the Moselle valley, the hills lush with vines and woods. The villages of Mehring (‘Merich’) and Riol are pictured, as well as two figures on a fishing boat casting off their nets at centre. Mehring is shown again on the folio opposite (Tate D19750; Turner Bequest CCXVI 101). These sketches were taken as Turner made his way from Trier towards Neumagen on 29 August 1824.
