Here Turner jots down a slight and undeveloped profile of buildings, including a steeple with a distinctive teardrop-shaped dome (see also Tate D19858; Turner Bequest CCXVI 152). The location may be Ghent in Belgium. There is also a small horizontal sky study which is squared-off at bottom left. Turner has inscribed the sky view with ‘Grey Clouds on a [?Gold] Sky’.
