Rendered with loose and free line, this sky study may have been taken as Turner journeyed from Bruges to Ostend. The artist has made note of the ‘Blue’ and ‘Yellow’ coloured light. A similar sketch is shown on Tate D19893; Turner Bequest CCXVI 171.
