Turner filled the centre of this page with a sketch of a large, crumbling structure, presumably the ruins of Netley Abbey, located about five miles south-east of Southampton. Inverted in relation to the sketchbook as foliated, it may be a more cursory version of the subject recorded on folio 31 recto (D23578; Turner Bequest CCLII 31), in which doors and windows punctuate a similarly dilapidated wall. The abbey was the subject of particular study in this sketchbook, and recurs on multiple pages; see folio 32 verso (D23581; Turner Bequest CCLII 32a) for the main entry on this site.
