With the sketchbook turned vertically, Turner recorded a fully-rigged ship in full sail from different angles on this page. All three drawings show the vessel at starboard, with the top sketch depicting the bow and the central sketch revealing the stern side. Such ships abounded in the English Channel and on the long navigable stretch of the Seine, both much studied in the volume as outlined in the Introduction to this sketchbook.
