Turner worked multiple studies of riverside scenes onto this page, some of which are inverted in related to the main drawing along the top of the page and others running vertically up its edges. Although cursorily drawn, the bridge and settlement featured in the top landscape may locate the scene to Saint-Germain-en-Laye to the west of central Paris. This location is suggested by a note reading ‘St Ger’ on the left-hand side of the scene. Drawings of this neighbourhood recur on several pages in this volume, a list of which is included in the sketchbook Introduction for comparison.
