With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled the central strip of this page with a view of a county town or village. The handling is too cursory here to identify a definitive location although the town of Brienne-le-Château, which recurs frequently in this part of the sketchbook, had a church tower similar to the one described at the centre of this drawing. A list of these studies is provided in the sketchbook Introduction for comparison.
