With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with drawings taken at the settlement of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, situated some twelve miles west of central Paris. The drawing along the top edge of the page is inverted in relation to the other two. This site features on multiple pages of this volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook Introduction. An engraving of this location with the buildings included here featured in the 1835 volume of Turner’s Annual Tour: Wanderings by the Loire and Seine (1833–5; later reissued as Rivers of France); see Tate T04714.
