With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner worked a study of a landscape of trees and buildings into the centre of this page. The handling is too cursory here to suggest a location, although this volume contains numerous such landscapes taken in the countryside surrounding Paris and around the River Marne to the east of the city. For comparison, a list of these drawings is provided in the sketchbook Introduction.
