This drawing was made with the page turned horizontally. In about 1805 Turner worked on a large watercolour Lake of Geneva, with Mont Blanc from the Lake, with the city of Geneva to the right, on commission for Edward Lascelles (Yale Center for British Art, New Haven),1 and there are several studies for it in this sketchbook; see under folio 8 verso (D04917; Turner Bequest LXXXI 16).
