Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the subject is continued on folio 72 recto opposite (D05043; Turner Bequest LXXXI 141). This is a study for the painting The Shipwreck, shown in Turner’s own gallery in 1805 (Tate N00476),1 and worked out on a number of pages here; see under folio 1 verso (D04903; Turner Bequest LXXXI 2).
