The first six lines are cancelled with a large ‘X’, perhaps by Turner. The last three lines are in another hand, presumably that of James Newman, whose initials comprise the last line. For the colourman James Newton see under folio 6 recto (D03741), on which page there are further notes of purchases of pigments and brushes in the same hand as the first six lines here, signed ‘[?J.] Brown’; the brief related note inside the back cover opposite (D40808) also seems to be in the latter’s hand.
