Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the subject is continued on folio 35 verso opposite (D02652). The cliffs shown here are probably on the Yorkshire coast between Scarborough and Whitby. Compare drawings in the 1801 Guisborough Shore sketchbook (Tate D02406–D02409; Turner Bequest LII 9a–10, 10a–11).
