Finberg proposed that this drawing shows a view ‘Near Killiekrankie’, and noted a connection with a rough sketch of the subject in the 1801 Tummel Bridge sketchbook (Tate D03320–D03321; Turner Bequest LVII 22a–23). In the same book, Tate D03318–D03319 (Turner Bequest LVII 21a–22) is a similar scene, inscribed ‘Kinshaws’ or ‘Kenelaws’, which may be a transcription of ‘Kilchurn’.
