Made with the page turned horizontally, like the studies that Turner made of burdock and other weeds on folios 5 recto and 6 recto (D03836, D03837; Turner Bequest LXVI 4, 5) and in the contemporary Studies for Pictures sketchbook (Tate D04130; Turner Bequest LXIX 114) this is a note of a natural detail that he may have considered useful for possible inclusion in the foreground of a watercolour view.
