Here Turner records three vessels sailing off the coast at Essex, Suffolk or Norfolk. Another vessel with its sails raised has been jotted at bottom left. The location is unclear, however Turner’s inscription at centre left may read ‘Essex’. A similar scene is depicted on the folio opposite (Tate D18175; Turner Bequest CCIX 10).
