Here Turner has produced four sketches of coastline, with beachfront buildings, a beached rowing boat, and a stepladder leading to a viewing platform raised on wooden stilts (shown again on Tate D18188, D18199; Turner Bequest CCIX 17, 22a). The lowermost sketch is a view of the open sea with vessels navigating the waters. The location is likely at or near the port of Yarmouth.
