These sketches show Yarmouth Sands on the Norfolk coast. Vessels navigate the waters near the harbour in the distance whilst fishermen attend to their moored boats and prepare the catch in the foreground. The old pier can be seen in the distance in the central sketch. Similar drawings are found on Tate D18207, D18210–D18211; Turner Bequest CCIX 26a, 28–28a. Turner’s sketches are associated with designs for both the England and Wales (Tate impression T04547) and East Coast engraving schemes, though the latter design, housed at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, was unpublished.1
