These cursory sketches were taken with the book turned upside down. Previously unidentified, this cataloguer proposes that Turner depicts the Essex town of Colchester here. The profile of Colchester Castle can be seen at centre towards left, marked by a tower topped with a dome. The River Colne is suggested loosely in the foreground.
