Rendered with the sketchbook turner upside town, here Turner has drawn a study of Colchester Castle in Essex. A second, more cursory view of the stronghold and its environs is sketched below. There is a further study on the folio opposite (Tate D18296; Turner Bequest CCIX 80a).
