Here Turner has rendered cursory views of a beach on the Sussex Channel coast, with figures on the sands overlooking the waters beyond. The lowermost sketch is a distant prospect of a town on a nearby headland; it is inscribed with the initials ‘W’, ‘B’, ‘W Oct’.
