Finberg resorted to describing this barely developed study as a ‘Slight sketch’.1 It perhaps represents rocks on the coast of the Isle of Wight; a more coherent sketch on folio 3 verso opposite (D20738) may show the shore near Ryde on the island, other views of which are noted under folio 2 recto (D20735).
