If Turner’s inscription can be interpreted as such, the subject may be in the vicinity of Carisolo, in the mountainous region north-west of Trento in northern Italy, where Turner drew the cathedral in the 1833 Venice up to Trento sketchbook (Tate D31746; Turner Bequest CCCXII 77).
