The pink light catching the high clouds suggests dawn or sunset. Compare Tate D25190 and D25259 (Turner Bequest CCLXIII 68, 137).
Technical notes:
Eric Shanes has suggested that the sheet was originally part of a larger one from which Tate D25452 and D25514 (Turner Bequest CCLXIII 329, 390), two studies of light over the sea, also came.
