Among the various profiles of low wooded hills here, Southampton appears at the top with its two church spires, and Netley Abbey is seen on the eastern bank of Southampton Water below the centre; see also folio 62 verso opposite (D18110). Turner’s inscription seems to be a place name, but is difficult to make out. This is one of a sequence of views in the Southampton area; see under folio 58 verso (D18102).
