Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, at the top right is a continuation of the view on folio 66 verso (D18118), where Southampton is seen at sunset to the north-west. The low arched structure below the trees on this page is perhaps a lime kiln on the eastern shore of Southampton Water, in the vicinity of where Weston Parade now runs; it is the viewpoint for the Southampton sketch, and is also shown from the other side with the town beyond on folio 65 verso (D18116). This is one of a sequence of views in the Southampton area; see under folio 58 verso (D18102).
