With the page turned vertically, Turner has made a thumbnail sketch of a the port side of a three-masted ship with a funnel and what seems to a paddlewheel housing amidships. His inscription immediately below may be the name of the vessel, presumably observed passing off Kent (see the sketchbook’s Introduction).
