This slight study, not noted by Finberg,1 shows Jarvis’s Landing Place, looking north over Margate’s Great Beach from near Mrs Booth’s house on Bank Side, with shipping at the seaward end including at least one steamer. The recto (Tate D20319; Turner Bequest CCXXIV 29) shows a more detailed view of the same scene, putting the jetty in the contest of the nearby pier and cliffs; the drawings, presumably made in quick succession, are inverted relative to each other. For more details of the setting, see the Introduction to this subsection.
